The island as case study

You can't study this
at home.

Bali welcomes more than five million international visitors a year. Tourism shapes its economy, its culture and its coastline in real time. Here, overtourism, water and heritage are not textbook chapters, they are outside the classroom door. There are no scripted student quotes on this page. The proof is the fieldwork, the destinations, and the cohorts who have already done it.

The outcome

A tourism venture
and up to 30 ECTS.

The concept
A tourism venture you built

In the Tourismpreneurship module you develop a sustainable tourism business, from idea to detailed plan, and pitch it to industry experts. You leave with a real concept, not just a grade.

The paper
30 ECTS, black on white

Certificate and Academic Transcript from PIB College documenting up to 30 ECTS. About 15 US credits is a rough workload comparison, not a recognition guarantee. Your home institution alone decides recognition.

The people
A cohort from across the map

A small international group, plus Balinese peers you build and pitch alongside. You arrive alone and leave with a network in the industry and a group chat that stays busy.

The shift
A new way to read a destination

Overtourism, water, culture, community. Once you have stood in the trade-offs, you never look at a destination the same way again.

FAQ

Questions about
this program.

Eligibility, project work, visa, internship options, credits and semester format.

Do I need to be a tourism student?
Tourism, hospitality and business students are the core, but the program is open to related fields and to professionals with a genuine interest in sustainable tourism. No prior degree in the field is required.
What will I actually build?
A sustainable tourism business concept. In the Tourismpreneurship module you develop a business model and detailed plan, then pitch it to industry experts. You leave with a developed concept, not just credits.
Which visa do I need?
The C9 student visa, applied for by PIB College on your behalf as your sponsor. It allows stays of up to 180 days. From Summer Class 2027 the visa fee is part of the program price; the earlier Winter Class 2026 intake charged it separately.
Is there an internship?
Optionally, yes. After the 15 weeks you can extend your stay with a 2-week to 2-month internship at one of PIB College's tourism-industry partners.
Will my home university accept the credits?
The programme documents up to 30 ECTS. About 15 US credits is a rough workload comparison, not a recognition guarantee. Your home institution alone decides whether and how the credits count, so confirm this with your registrar before applying.
Is this a study abroad or semester abroad program?
Yes. It is a 15-week semester at PIB College in Bali, taught in English and documenting up to 30 ECTS. Your home institution decides how the programme may count toward your studies.
